Arnaud Bourdin

Professor Arnaud Bourdin is Head of the Pulmonology Department, an expert physician, and Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Arnaud de Villeneuve Hospital, University of Montpellier. He earned his Medical Doctorate (MD) in 2001 from Paris XIII University and his PhD in Research in 2006 from the University of Montpellier, followed by a postdoctoral research fellowship at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, under the supervision of Professor Tom Kotsimbos.
Currently, he serves as Vice-Dean for Clinical Research and Innovation Delegations (DRCI) at the Montpellier and Nîmes University Hospitals. Since 2020, Professor Bourdin has been a strong advocate for GINA (Global Initiative for Asthma) and now sits on its Scientific Committee. He is the French representative for the European SHARP program, chairs the National Leader Forum, and serves on the Board of Directors of the International Severe Asthma Registry (ISAR).
Professor Bourdin is the author or co-author of over 350 peer-reviewed articles, reviews, and monographs. He leads a clinical research group investigating innovative treatments for asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and rare diseases, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). His scientific research primarily focuses on the heterogeneity of environmental susceptibility, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) biology, the pathophysiology and management of COPD, as well as the mechanisms and treatment of severe asthma. He has served as Principal Investigator (PI) in multiple clinical trials on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, rare diseases, pulmonary arterial hypertension, asthma, and COPD, including the COBRA study and the RAMSES registry.

Olivier Cazorla

Olivier Cazorla (DR2, CNRS) obtained his PhD in cardiac Physiology at the University of Tours in 1998, on the cellular mechanisms of Frank-Starling relationship in mammalian cardiomyocytes using carbon fibers working with Prof Didier Garnier and Jean-Yves Leguennec. His postdoctoral training, in Pr. Henk Granzier lab (Washington State University, USA) focused on the biophysical and biochemical characteristics of titin in mammalian hearts. Back in France (Montpellier) he investigated the modulation of cardiac contraction in normal and pathological conditions by modifying the contractile machinery. In 2003, Dr. Cazorla was recruited as a permanent researcher by center of national scientific research (CNRS) in the Cardiovascular Pathophysiology Laboratory (Montpellier) working from cellular physiology to in-vivo whole heart physiology. He was awarded the CNRS Bronze Medal in 2011 and the CNRS Prize for Scientific Excellence in 2012 and 2023. Dr. Cazorla is now research director and with his team studies the direct and indirect impacts of lung dysfunction induced by air pollution or intense exercise on the cardiovascular hemodynamics in humans and in animal models. He is the author or co-author of 102 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 2 patents.
